Music called the video "very nice" and wrote that Hilson's portrayal of Janet Jackson was her "best remake" in the video. Mariel Concepcion from Billboard magazine commented that the "video made her like the song ." Nicole James from MTV Buzzworthy gave Hilson 100 bonus points for the authenticity of the wig she wore portraying T-Boz. In the United States, "Pretty Girl Rock" entered the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at number 76 on the chart issue dated November 20, 2010, and peaked at number four on the chart issue dated February 12, 2011.
A website was launched with videos, games, and message boards. Promotional toys were also offered at Quick restaurants as well as McDonald's. The single also became an all-around hit on Top 40 radio, going top ten on both the Top 40 Tracks and Rhythmic Top 40, and to number one for five weeks on the Mainstream Top 40. It spent 32 weeks on the Hot 100 and ended up at number five on Billboard magazine's year-end chart. As of June 2012, "...Baby One More Time" has sold 1,412,000 physical singles, with 511,000 paid digital downloads in the United States. "...Baby One More Time" debuted at number 20 on the Australian Singles Chart, a month later reached number one and stayed there for nine consecutive weeks. The song eventually became the second highest-selling single of the year, only behind Lou Bega's "Mambo #5", and was certified three-times Platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association for selling over 210,000 copies. In New Zealand, the single spent four non-consecutive weeks at the top of the charts and after shipping over 15,000 units to retailers the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand certified it Platinum.
In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked the song at number one on a list of the 100 Greatest Debut Singles of All Time. In 2021, the same magazine ranked the song at number 205 on their updated list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Blender listed it at number nine in the 500 Greatest Songs Since You Were Born. The song was also listed as the 2nd best song of the 1990s by VH1 and in a listing compiled in 2003, ranked at number one in 100 Best Songs of the Past 25 Years. Bill Lamb of About.com ranked "...Baby One More Time" at number one on a compiled list with the Top 40 Pop Songs Of All Time. The music video was voted the third most influential promo in the history of pop music on a poll held by Jam!.

To distinguish herself from Talia, she was designed with slightly darker skin tone and lighter hair. A day before the release of No Boys Allowed, Hilson performed the song at Billboard's first live Tastemakers event in New York City on December 20. On January 4, 2011, Hilson gave a Motown-themed performance of "Pretty Girl Rock" on the Late Show with David Letterman, by paying tribute to Diana Ross and The Supremes with her two female back-up singers. On January 25, she performed "Pretty Girl Rock" on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, also mixing Blunt's "You're Beautiful" into the song. Backed by four female dancers, Hilson wore a white button-down shirt, knee-length pants and black heels.
R&B girl group RichGirl and American rapper Lil' Kim have also released their own remixes to "Pretty Girl Rock", and American rock band Parachute have covered the song. The schoolgirl outfit is considered to be one of Spears' most iconic looks as well as amongst the hallmarks of pop culture. It is on display at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Hilson was dressed in pink and performed the song on My Princess Academy's "Castle of Dreams" float high above a pink castle. On December 3, Hilson performed "Pretty Girl Rock" at the VH1 Divas Salute the Troops concert. She took to the stage dressed in a gold bustier with high-waisted pants and a fringe-laden jacket to perform the song in front of an audience that included members of the US Armed Forces. Hilson was backed by four female dancers, who wore stylized military jackets. Mawuse Ziegbe from MTV News wrote that, "Hilson brought her saucy, sexpot swagger to the stage." The promotion of the song continued on December 7, when she performed a remixed version of "Pretty Girl Rock" on Lopez Tonight, dressed in a silver and black leotard. Hilson later performed "Pretty Girl Rock" on December 14 on the Today Show, mixing the track with James Blunt's single "You're Beautiful".
Twenty One Pilots released the video for "Stressed Out" on April 27, 2015, and it was directed by Reel Bear Media. The video depicts a bleak narrative set in a dreary suburban neighborhood. The story begins on a partly cloudy day with Joseph pedalling down a street on a three wheeler. Throughout the music video, black paint can be seen on his neck and hands. The two perform the song with a young man who lives there, and within the mind of the young man dwelling inside the house who resembles the two save their tattoos and colored hair.At one point, the pair drink Capri Suns while sitting near a curb. The scene then changes to Joseph and Dun lying in beds as members from their combined families who are dressed in black watch them sleep and all chant in unison "Wake up, you need to make money".
The song reached the top spot of the Hot 100 Singles Sales and stayed there for four consecutive weeks. This eventually propelled the single to a Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America. Though not as strong as its sales tallies, "...Baby One More Time" also experienced considerable airplay, becoming her first top ten hit on the Hot 100 Airplay, peaking at number eight.
For a time, record producer Mike Elizondo was worried Joseph's specificity would limit the single's reception among the larger populace. In 1984, country music artists Moe Bandy and Joe Stampley recorded "Where's the Dress", a satirical song about Boy George which sampled "Karma Chameleon". Fenster asked producer Max Martin to meet Spears in New York, after which he returned to Sweden to write her a handful of songs with long-term collaborator Denniz Pop. When six songs were ready, Spears flew to Cheiron Studios in Stockholm, Sweden, where half of the album was recorded in May 1998, nominally produced by Martin, Pop and Yacoub.
