I am looking to take it to a tailor to get it fitted, but I am in debt due to student loans, so I am looking for as many DIY projects as I can do. I am interested in bleaching it if that is possible without damaging the dress. I would really appreciate any kind of advice you can share with me. Like I said, I LOVE this dress and it would mean so much to me to be able to wear it on my wedding day. From the other post I've read, places I've gone, and people I've called so far reading what you posted is the closest to help that I can find. That being said, I have a dark purple polyester evening gown it is beautiful however I desperately need it to be white!
For example, to help them fade, try washing the black clothes in hot water, and use a strong detergent. Also, dry them on high in the dryer and leave them the right side out when washing. Repeat these things until the clothes have faded enough for your needs.
How to Fix Bleach Stains on Black Clothes
You may have to take the help of a commercial dye remover to lighten bleach stains that do not go away easily. A rust remover may also come in handy to treat such unrelenting stains. Vinegar usually helps to prevent fading rather than cause it and it can brighten blacks by removing soap residue that has built up on the clothing over several washes.
Upon washing my hair out, we discovered that the color had only partially lifted. Sponge the stain with a clean white cloth dipped in white vinegar. Now all you have to do is wash the stained area with water. You may have to repeat this procedure if the stain has not faded away.

As you'll see in the steps to follow, dyeing synthetic items involves a longer time submerged in a stainless steel pot of simmering water over the stove. Synthetics cannot be permanently dyed in the washing machine as is the case for highly absorbent natural fibers. Relocate the rubber bands and re-spray for a multi-hue effect. If you want to create a layered look, twist up your garment and apply rubber bands, then apply bleach to your fabric and let it sit for about 5-6 minutes. Take all of the rubber bands off your garment, twist your garment again, put the rubber bands back on, and re-spray the garment with the bleach mixture.
Be careful not to splash the bleach water out of the bucket. Set a timer and check on the “lightness” of the fabric after 2 hours, then 30 minute increments. You can always bleach longer, but too much bleach is damaging to the fabric and can result in holes at the seams and in the garment. Reading the comments I was a little dismayed by all the negativity and doubters.

If you’veever had to work with bleach before there’s a fair chance that you got some on your clothes – if only even a tiny droplet. Bleach is a liquid made with lots of different extremely strong chemicals, so if this comes into contact with your clothes then it can do a lot of damage. Shipping policies vary, but many of our sellers offer free shipping when you purchase from them. Typically, orders of $35 USD or more qualify for free standard shipping from participating Etsy sellers.
Focus on the bleach stain and rub the cotton swab on this area. Pull from the areas that have been unaffected by the bleach into the white patches that the bleach has left behind. Once you have quickly gathered all of these everyday household items, you can then begin to work on your clothing.
